Lost or stolen car/motorcycle registration certificate

Have you lost your car registration certificate (kentekenbewijs), or has it been stolen or damaged? If so, you should apply to the RDW for a new registration certificate. You will also need a new registration certificate if you have lost part of your paper registration certificate (e.g. a certificate of transcription). Is the registration plate in your company’s name? If so, you can also apply to the RDW for a new registration certificate. You can only apply for a new registration certificate if the vehicle is in your name, in your company’s name, or if you authorise someone else to apply on your behalf.

How do I apply for a new registration certificate?

• Make sure you have your registration code. The registration code consists of the last 4 digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN).
• You can apply for a new vehicle registration using the ‘Vehicle Registration Application’ button on the RDW website. Then select “Application for registration code card”. You pay the costs through iDEAL.
• You receive a new registration certificate (registration card) and automatically a registration code from the RDW. The RDW always sends the registration card and the letter containing the code to the address registered in the municipality of the vehicle owner/holder.
• When you receive your new registration card, cut up the old paper registration cards that you may still have. These are no longer up to date. Did you already have a registration certificate for this vehicle? Then throw away the ‘old’ registration code. It is no longer up to date.

You cover the cost of the new registration certificate and the accompanying registration code by iDeal transfer. The costs amount to €32.60.

Retrieving your old registration certificate

Have you applied for a new registration certificate and has your old one been found? Unfortunately, it is not possible to stop the application and receive a refund.
