Take the sickness benefit abroad (ziektewetuitkering)

The allowance can be taken with you to a European Union (EU) country, the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. Outside these countries, you can only take the allowance with you if the Netherlands has an agreement with that country.

Going abroad with sickness benefit

Within the EU, EEA and Switzerland, you can always take your sickness benefit with you. If you go to another country, it depends on whether you live in that country or not.

Persons living outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland who are entitled to sickness benefit

You can only take your sickness benefit (Ziektewetuitkering) with you if the Netherlands has an implementing agreement with the country where you intend to live. Are you moving to a country with which the Netherlands has no signed agreements? If so, your sickness benefit will be withheld.
